What's Been Foretold Poem by Colin Coplin

What's Been Foretold

Rating: 4.0

These lazy street lights shine, while the blocked sewers choke
And rats congregate, to debate, how they’ll spread the forthcoming plague

I walk these same old streets, in this same old sleepy town every night
Nothing really changes much, except the look on the faces of my neighbors as they age

What’s been foretold, what’s been foretold
What’s been foretold, what’s been foretold

I wonder what the world beyond be holds
They wonder if their neighbors notice that they’re all growing old
My soul prays for a new tomorrow, but my heart knows
Only fire can cleanse, or time can erase what’s been foretold

It’s a parody
Every mountain ends up as a grain of sand upon the beach
Simply to come back again
As a mountain, carved by a master’s hand, that lies just beyond my reach
What else do I see
The dawn star rising in the sky each and every night
As music sings in strings, cast like a fisherman's net across the universe of sound
Only to one day end in a great rip which will then begin all over again

It’s been foretold, it’s been foretold
It’s been foretold, it’s been foretold

I wonder what the world beyond be holds
They wonder if their neighbors notice that they’re all growing old
My soul prays for a new tomorrow, but my heart knows
Only fire can cleanse, or time can erase what’s been foretold
It's been foretold, it's been foretold

These lazy street lights shine, while the blocked sewers choke
And rats congregate, to debate, how they’ll spread the forthcoming plague

I walk these streets each night,
Where two sides have fought a war since the dawn of time
It’s elementary, for every plus there is a minus sign
And for every rise there must be a decline
Behind every cloud must hide a silver lining
War and peace, rich and poor
Two sides to every coin, like waves that burst upon the shore

It's been foretold, it's been foretold
It's been foretold, it's been foretold
It's been foretold, it's been foretold
It's been foretold, it's been foretold
