What True Love Is About Poem by Francis Duggan

What True Love Is About

I used to wonder what true love is about
But now what it entails i do not have any doubt
Since true love is unconditional i have come to realize
We learn as we age and can become more wise

Joe in his seventies takes care of Kate his disabled wife
True love is not fleeting it is for life
And that it is unconditional only true to say
A love that is true does not die in a day

Grandparents in their seventh decade married for fifty years
They have been together through times of laughter and tears
He bathes and dresses her and cooks for her as well
But the story of his love and devotion to her will never be published in book form to sell

She is a good person but life to good people is not always fair
I sometimes see them in the park as he pushes her in her wheelchair
Far less honourable people than he is others do inspire
But he is a man i for one do admire

Of late i can say i have become aware
That true love is a thing that is rather rare
Than saying i love you true love far more does entail
When put to the true love test so many does fail

But Joe In his love of Kate has passed true love's test
And by him and his sort i for one feel impressed
Reminds me of the good advice to a son from his dad
That not all women are good and not all men are bad.

Sadly, sceptics can never believe they have true love even if it stares them in the face...
