What We Poem by Kewayne Wadley

What We

Most friends walk side by side
Or even sleep in separate rooms.
I've leaned into your lips
every time you weren't looking.
When around our mutual friends
I stand the furthest away initially
I am not being cynical on purpose,
But the trouble with how I feel
is that I've longed to stand in places
that I shouldn't
and do things that most friends wouldn't.
A simple talk won't change how exposed
I feel every time you look at me.
A simple talk won't let me escape
the way I feel about you.
But that's the things about most friends
We are not most friends,
Especially when no one is around
To tell us to deny what we already know
