When And How Long? Poem by DEEPAK KUMAR PATTANAYAK

When And How Long?

We dream a dream;
We sing a song,
We talk to him long,
We walk a furlong,
We view nature and go along,
And we travel very long.

Actions are possible;
When at breakfast,
We take a meal,
May be small,
When at lunch,
We take a meal,
May be big or small,
When at dinner,
We take a meal,
May be a bread or two so small.

Life sustains on energy;
And food brings energy,
Look, for days together he is hungry,
Yes, he is facing abject poverty,
For a small meal he needs God's mercy,
But where is the humanity?
A lot of money spent on wars to save dignity,
A lot of money spent on hatred to breed poverty.

With so many national and international programs,
Aimed to bring him one meal if not square meals,
He can dream,
He can sing,
He can talk,
He can work,
And he can walk,
But when and how long,
It will take to make him a man,
Free from fear of human life,
Facing hunger and poverty?
