When Things Get Harder Poem by Marlene Rashidi

When Things Get Harder

I want you to make me feel like a warrior
not like a failure.
Pat me on my back and advise me to try
my best.
When things get harder.
Tell me that I can depend on you
tell me that I don't have to give up.
Always remind me of how strong I can be
and how I can fight my weak flesh.
Look at me dead in the eye and promise
to always be my motivator.
Promise me that you won't look down at me.
When things get harder make sure my
path is clean and clear. Make sure that I don't
stumble over thorns and stones. I beg you
look out for me.
Be my leader to the ladder that will get me higher
to where I'm going.
When things get harder for me just always be
by my side.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is about me, when I start playing Basketball for Lincoln High School, Lincoln, NE. I want my friend Jazi and my coach; coach Jiles to always encourage me. I want my mother whom wants me not to play Basketball and I want my father to always be my great adviser. I'm looking forward to an adventure like this.
