When We Plummet, We Plummet Together Poem by Raj Dronamraju

When We Plummet, We Plummet Together

Classic literature about the man who rescued his wife from Hell
He rescued his wife from the clutches of the devil
And when it is our turn to fall (When not if)
We go together, holding one another, spinning in tandem in mid-air like a top

A final interruption which does not interrupt you and me
But takes everything else away in a mushroom cloud shaped obliteration
And leaves us with something that sickens singular citizens with envy
They envy our sweetness, they compare it to prancing unicorns
They conspire against us and are just waiting for the right moment to push us in the pit

When we plummet, it's like ambitious Lucifer going over Niagara Falls in a barrel
Pride most completely resembles self-destruction
And we make no peace with this
The unique aloofness of failure, the presence of more than one person helps carry the load

We reflect on this failure, we fall for a time which is in itself punishment
Punishment because this time feels like it has no end
But they tricked themselves
By allowing us to stay together, they negated the unpleasantness
Like the way we froze out problematic people, those who continually try to show us up,
And how we dealt with other irritating situations as a team
