Where Oppression Is Rife Poem by Francis Duggan

Where Oppression Is Rife

I was born and raised in and I now live in a free Country where free speech is a right
And for my basic human rights I never had to fight
But sad to say everyone not as lucky as me
Where oppression is rife there is much poverty
In Lands ruled by despotic leaders where oppression is rife
For to speak against the Government could cost you your life
Where there is free speech for those who rule till to the life's Reaper they fall
But for the ordinary citizens there are no rights at all
One can be born into good or to bad circumstance
And our gift of life as we know is only by chance
To be born in the wrong place and at the wrong time
For millions of people is their only crime
I am lucky I don't have sad stories to tell
For I have free speech and human rights as well.
