Whispers Poem by Jonathan Bellmann

Whispers

The whispers of a mother
as she tucks her child into bed,
reassuring her loved one
that there is nothing to dread.

The whispers from your parents
which you once threw out as straw,
you see now that they taught you rightly
about the things you never saw.

The whispers that haunt you
which follow you throughout your life
pointing out all your failures,
cutting you like a knife.

The whispers of nature,
if you stop long enough to hear
to consider the peace of mind discovered
when howling winds appear.

The whispers from your spouse
as you both grow with age,
how tender the feelings are remembered
at the turn of each page.

The whispers of encouragement
that steady a fainting soul
like a new foundation
it makes a broken life, whole.

The whispers around us
like birds in the trees
appear briefly on wings
or as songs in the breeze.
