Who Is She? Poem by Debendra Majhi

Who Is She?

She was a kingfisher,
Angle-hook was her beak.
She would stand still in rains,
For hours without a break.

No Coracles, fishing net,
Snell knot around the hook.
Earthworms and a palm leaf hat
That is all she took.

Harbinger of the livelihood,
Cared and cooked for all.
I see her nowhere now,
Seems she is forgotten by all.

As time passes, we tend to forget the contribution made by the Great Souls in the distant past by way of their little efforts. The poet reminiscences such a Great Soul.
