Whoosh Poem by Gary Witt

Whoosh

Rating: 5.0

I have driven in fast,
bunching up with them in the keyhole,
tripping, crowding, drawing fouls;
sliding away on my back
and thanking the academy.
Now I will shoot from outside,
arcing my hopes toward the rafters,
for a wayward, breathless moment
while squeaking soles stop,
and eyes wrestle
an inevitable curve.

I attempte to use a basketball image in a poem I wrtoe in 2001. Your poem reminded me of it, so I took it out dusted it off and posted 'Just Enough To Win.' Thanks for the reminder. Tom

Reading your poem twice I just discovered that I enjoy sports in a poem. thanks for that. I don't remember ever reading any before. I might write one sometime in the near future myself. Junior
