Why Did You Run Away For? Poem by Jodie Louise Pollock

Why Did You Run Away For?

Why did you run away for?
Walk in; walk straight back out the door?

Was it something you seen?
What happened to what once been?
Is it something about me?
Tell me, I can’t see.

If honesty is what people ask,
I hide it till dusk,
If the truth is what they need,
I bury my lonely seed,
The reason I run,
Gone and done,

I cannot tell you why,
I hear your frustrated sigh,
But I can’t tell you what I don’t know,
So I put my head down,
Hide my feelings,
Bury my soul,
And live in sorrow.
