Why My Black Is Beautiful? Poem by Wykeshia McCallister

Why My Black Is Beautiful?

Someone asked a question,
"Why my Black is Beautiful? "
I replied,
"Pick up your Bible,
open it and read it."

From the beginning,
the Creator made me
in His own image and likeness. (Genesis 1: 27)

My skin was black like an oven
because of the terrible famine. (Lamentations 5: 10)

When His words came, I ate them;
they were my joy and my heart's delight,
for I bear His name, the Almighty God. (Jeremiah 15: 16)

I'm the color of coal,
the Gemologist made me
hard as a diamond, harder than stone. (Ezekiel 3: 9)

As proud as I am for being black,
I give praise to the Creator
because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
for His works is marvelous.(Psalm 139: 14)

I am dark and lovely,
O daughters of Jerusalem,
do not gaze at me because I am dark, (Songs of Solomon 1: 5&6)

My inner beauty is something
that cannot be destroyed,
it expresses itself in a gentle and quiet spirit
which He considers precious. (1 Peter 3: 4)

I am humble as a lamb
that belongs to the Good Shepherd's pasture,
because it was HE who have created me,
and I belong to HIM. (Psalm 100: 3)

And this poem explains why
My Black is BEAUTIFUL! !
