POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
When I was discharged from the Army, my father asked me what I was going to do with my life now. I answered that I was going to write poetry. He asked 'Why poetry? ' This was my answer. I still appreciate that moment when he stopped me and asked 'Why? '
