William Wallace
An Ode To William Wallace and His Love....
When first he saw her he was ten,
she was eight years old back then.
He thought about her every night
her long brown hair,
her beaming smile,
her twinkling eyes of emerald green,
he knew one day
she'd be his wife.
Some years later, they met once more,
his love now stronger than before.
They stole away into the night,
they wed in secret,
made her, his wife.
In the moonlight by the loch,
they came together' man and wife.
So pure, so right on this, their wedding night.
For noble men away back then,
had the right to purge in spite.
By law' they were the first to soil
virgin brides who tried to hide.
They desecrate their wedding vows
for vengeance they would mar that night
to show who's countries rule was right.
Then once found out she wed in secret,
they hounded, chased her,
took her freedom.
Bound and gagged her to a tree,
tortured her, tried to make her speak.
She held her tongue, not spoke a word,
they yield a knife, they cut her throat.
In fields protected by hills and mountings,
he laid her out in pure white linen.
He knelt down closely by her side,
said farewell, to his lovely wife.
Goodbye my love, the one I adore
I vow my life forever more,
I will remember, you, all of my life.
He begged forgiveness from her father,
he vowed revenge on noble men,
the ones that had to make amends.
For what they took from him that night
the night they stole away his wife.

Scots Wha hae wi' Wallace Bled! I've often played the song. You've made a beautiful poem about a Great Scot and his tragic early life. It's a very sad but lovely Ode.
they wed in seceret, ...........is seceret a resort's name? ha ha this stanza: For noble men away back then, had the right to purge in spite. They desecrate their wedding vows for vengances they would mar that night to show who's countries rule was right.................. .............................this stanza befuddled me at first. then i believe recalled reading once that e.g. a king could be the one to deflower (or otherwise have sexual relations with) a new bride even though she was NOT his bride! true? if so, no wonder so many wished to be king (or did they?) ! of course i would oppose the rule, but maybe it was a more sure way of ensuring an heir to the king's throne, rather than depend on the queen to 'deliver' a son. ============================= regarding the character William Wallace in the movie Braveheart: [from Wikipedia]: Plot In 1280, King Edward Longshanks (Patrick McGoohan) invades and conquers Scotland following the death of Alexander III of Scotland, who left no heir to the throne. Young William Wallace (James Robinson) witnesses Longshanks' treachery, survives the deaths of his father (Sean Lawlor) and brother (Sandy Nelson) , and is taken abroad on a pilgrimage throughout Europe by his paternal Uncle Argyle (Brian Cox) , where he is educated. Years later, Longshanks grants his noblemen land and privileges in Scotland, including Prima Nocte. Meanwhile, a grown Wallace (Mel Gibson) returns to Scotland and falls in love with his childhood friend Murron MacClannough (Catherine McCormack) , and the two marry in secret. Wallace rescues Murron from being raped by English soldiers, but as she fights off their second attempt, Murron is captured and publicly executed. In retribution, Wallace leads his clan to slaughter the English garrison in his hometown and send the occupying garrison at Lanark back to England ===================================== bri :)
