Winged Planet Spannings Poem by Doug Blair

Winged Planet Spannings

Sun and moon and magnet
Guide their awesome flight
Winging over mountains
Quiet field by night.
Driven northward yearly
Fresher foods and nest
Culling out some weaklings
Hardy all the rest.
Farmers grounded hear them
Honking glad return
Northward more to tundra
Goose and tiny tern.
Miles defying logic
Brave their spirits soar
Crossing lines all unseen
Often done before.
Short respite of nesting
Now the young ones learn
Meals and how to get them.
Sights on their return.
Back to tropic marvels
Forests colours heat
Blooming welcome heartlands
Joyful flight complete.
Lord you bless these wandering
Set the patterns clear
Showing us your mastery
Of each passing year.
