Wishing Star. Poem by Lois doyle

Wishing Star.

she feels the laughter pass her by
tears burn as she starts to cry
she tries to stand tall
only to know she'll fall

a child whimpers beyond the sound of the rain
she stops to think of her pain
she takes the child up by the hand
and shows her a world she can understand
one where the happy endings don't end
and days wake up again and again

there's a beat in this child's heart
that doesn't match everyone else's start
lyrics no one would ever listen to 'cuz we all want fairy tales
but when realism starts, hope fails

the dead arise when light scrapes her breath
insane as cocain and meth
she tells the child never to wish upon a star
'cuz baby, it never got me far.
