With A Smirk On Your Face Poem by Francis Duggan

With A Smirk On Your Face

On the flagpost in your front garden flies your National flag
And of your patriotism you feel proud to brag
And nationalistic stickers adorning your car
Yet these things do not tell us of the person you are
You tell me with a satisfied smirk on your face
That your's to all others is a superior Race
Your feelings of nationalistic superiority is your spiritual poverty
You sound very much like a racist to me
On the true worth of others you do cast some doubt
Is this what Nationalism and Patriotism is about?
You are not one who does promote equality
And you will never be known as one of empathy
You brag of your Patriotism with a smirk on your face
Yet a fair go for all you could never embrace.
