With Nothing Poem by Samuel Santana

With Nothing

I had a father
The factory snatched him
I had a mother
In the laundry she became ill
I had a puppy
Somebody took it at night
I raised a church
Then came another preacher
I had a job
I was fired
I had a house
The banker took it
I was sick,
but the doctors did not give me medicine
Now I can explain to my son
what is the meaning of ambition
