(11 May,1993)

Walk naked, woman, fearless.
I have nothing to harm you.

Beautiful you are indeed.
Walk alone, woman, fearless;
Mother, wife, sister, daughter.

I will lay not my hands upon you
I will dare not make you cower
By my eyes, hands, or member.

Walk naked, woman, fearless.
I will worship your breasts,
Since you fed us all.

I will worship your womb,
Since all my perfections
Were given shape within those walls.

I will shower upon you flowers
And worship your face,
For those eyes looked out for me,
And those lips uttered songs
On sleepless nights, on days
Drenched in tears, my body caught
In wretched clutches of ailments.

I'll wash your feet, your legs,
Behind them I followed with
My first unsteady steps.

I will gently massage those hands
Whose fingers around which entwined
My digits for the first time.

Walk naked, woman, fearless.
I will never burn your soul
With vicious thoughts and dirty words.
I will sing songs of praise.
I'll dance down the lanes of
Darkness and alight them with
My words, my verses, my body set afire.

I am man. Son, husband, father, brother.
Walk naked woman, fearless.
Beasts dressed like man will fall;
Brave creature, woman, walk naked.
Beside you on my steed I'll go,
They'll fall, all beasts, burning.

Poem of the Day

poet Christina Georgina Rossetti

Where sunless rivers weep
Their waves into the deep,
She sleeps a charmed sleep:
Awake her not.
Led by a single star,
She came from very far
