Delicious, wonderful writing, Maya. I've read most of your autobiographies and have loved every one. I do have questions that were never answered about your brother, Bailey but perhaps I missed one of the books. Love your cookbook and my dear, I love everything about you. Saw you in 1986 and loved you then!

the poem is simple and the author is actually expressed the woman's issue in the poem. The whole poem is actually a ballad of a housewife who is tired with all the routines in her daily life. She has no choice and chance to do what she wants. She does not own anything except the 'sun, rain, curving sky...'. The last stanza shows that she is frustrated with her life and the social's perspective towards women at that time. Well, the poem is wrote in 1928 which is during the 'slavery period' that involve most of the Black American women in that era. Hence, the author tried to emphasized the women's right in her poem. |
