Word To Remember

Soldiers messed about
making protective defences
out of wire baskets filled with stones.
To help them hold out,
out of gabions they made redoubts.

'I'll remember that word, ' said a gardener-bard,
who has two gabions containing stones he has sifted
from the soil in his yard.
