Drop by drop are drops when caught
Fills up even a large pot,
So is a lesson's learning,
Virtue and wealth, all earning,
None can be had in one greedy lot.

Transliteration of the subhāśhita along with the meanings of Sanskrit words seriatim is given as under:
jala-bindu nipātena kramashah pūryate ghaţah |
sah hetuh sarva vidyānām dharmasya cha dhanasya cha ||
jala-bindu: a drop of water
nipātena: falling to fill (drop by drop) , collecting
kramashah: gradually; in course of time
pūryate: fills up
ghaţah: a pot, jar, pitcher
sah: that
hetuh: purpose; objective
sarva-vidyānām: (is in case)of all the learning
dharmasya cha: and of virtue, character that be upheld
dhanasya cha: and of wealth
