Yes, I Wish To Die Soon Poem by Arun Maji

Light is shadowed
And song is stifled.
Story is subdued
And dream is forgotten.
Truth is crushed
And love is punished.
Yes, this is where I live.

Here,
Earth is still green,
River is still flowing,
Birds are still singing,
But human?
Some evil spirit has possessed them.
They hardly behave like human.

I wish to die
Soon.
Not because I do not desire to live,
But because I see no meaning in living.
Why should I consume food
That otherwise could feed green of this planet?
Why should I breathe air
That otherwise could refresh floras and faunas?
I don't want to be another pain
To achy heart of my mother, The Earth.

At middle of night
I wake up short of breath
Asking myself-
Where am I?
Why am I here?
What good am I doing here?
And I cannot go back to sleep.
Pain of my meaningless life
Haunts me.

Yes, I wish to die
Soon.
