Yesterday - For Instance Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Yesterday - For Instance

Humour intended:

A man of extensive worldwide vocabulary
but most of the wording, seldom used!
Yesterday, he needed just eight little words
'good day' - 'no thank you' - 'I am confused'.

'Good day' he said to the council workmen
'no thank you' he answered girl friend Kate,
A nod and a wink to the man next door
and a shake of the head to a dog at the gate.

'I am confused' he whispered on the telephone
wondering whether to press (1) (2) or (3)
And until he attends the Reunion Supper
His dictionary lies idle in the conservatory.
