Yo Pops Poem by Lehlohonolo Selai

Yo Pops

This is me
A three decade reflection of your lies
A three decade fortified nerve you pulled
An everlasting expectation she harboured
An everlasting taste of your deceit

This is me
Wishing to escape the horrors of your selfishness
Fishing for purity while drowning deep in bondages
Fishing for joy while sinking far deeper in your curses
Wishing, yet failing just like you dared me

This is me
Growing some sense in solitude
Far from your made believe attitude
Far from the bitterness of your cold heart
Growing to abundance from pure emptiness

This is me
Falling in love without your guidance
Like a ship sailing to adventures unknown
Casting off with a clue, yet not much substance
Battling waves that unlike you tell no lies

This is me
A sun you never agreed would shine upon you
A full day you argued your way out of
An innocent song you said NO to
A son with just your awfully cute face

This is me
Venturing out to the unknown
Pulling all out from your nasty hold
Falling in love unlike you
And casting off from the shores of your memory
