You And I Poem by Dan Medina

You And I

You and I don't get along so well.
You are my greatest adversary,
but without you-I cannot be.

When I need to forget,
you make me remember.
When I need you,
you abandon me.
When I desire peace,
you push me into chaos.

Forget you tell me,
but you wont let me.
You banter me with thoughts.
Thoughts of those once loved...
Still loved?

And when I think all is okay-
that everything is fine, forgotten, mended,
you stand there so ruthlessly and state the contrary.
You persist and ask of more.

Oh how I wish to be rid of you.
To cast you away with your
putrid character and sour taste.

But to desert you, I cannot.
Cornered you have me.
A twisted game, a sick puzzle.
Your sting I feel whether I embrace your influence,
or discard you whole.

As for me, there is no winning.
Because- in the end....
... you are me....
