Your Life-Our Business Poem by Rose Kanana

Your Life-Our Business

Rating: 5.0

Our son from another mother
Books you have read
Read them again and again
But you must oblige to our quest
The quest for a wife
The quest for children
We know no other sounds that soothe our ears
Than the sound of a cooing and wimping baby
Will you give us a wife?
Will you give us a baby?
Will our pressure compel you
To bring us what is within our disposal or yours?

Our son from another mother
We value your knowledge
But our culture is superior
We will ask u uncomfortable questions son
For we care
Is it fear for women you have?
Are you stingy not to take care of a wife?
Do your 'tools of trade' rise to the occasion
Does the flag fly half mast?
Our business is your business son
More of our business than yours..you know!
Men are said to be men enough when they sire son
And so are daughters

Our son from another mother
Take the courage to love
To reorganize yourself
To purpose marriage
This is the language we understand best
Will you or will you not wear
The amour of courage to love, to cherish and to behold
To kiss and to break the fences?
That is the language the world understands son
The language of procreation
Your world is not their world son
Let your choice be the best son
For marriage is a lifetime sweet prison-choose your prison-mate wisely

Now that family pressure has done its work to set his feet upon the marital path, you pen this poem to mark the occasion. At the same time, you reveal how intrusive such pressure can be. Those zealous breeders did not hesitate to use ridicule to make him toe the line. In their eyes, bookish people have their head in the clouds, and that's not where they wanted his mind to be. I find myself sympathizing with them: the fascinating power of books needs to be curbed somehow so that life can go on.
