Youthful Poem by DEEPAK KUMAR PATTANAYAK

Youthful

Take a puff or take a sip of wine
Come to bars, discotheques or inn
So say my friends every time
In the sleep, awakening and dream
But Dad how long, how long
Shall I be able to shy away such lures as I pass along?
You are like a lotus my child
While being rooted in the mud
You blossom floating above the murky water
Drops of which slide off your petals of attachment and desire
You are like rain drops
Absorbing dirt particles
To shine on the evil and the good
Thus gaining wisdom in the ground
And flowering your soul into bright sunshine
From the primeval mud of so called beguiled-shrine
Oh my child, you are always special to us
In the midst of serenity and shyness
But Dad if I don't come
They make fun of me
Dubbed as a little baby swinging in a cradle
And dreaming a paradise of fool
Oh my child it happened in all cultures
That our friends did party and dance
And made fun of certain peers
By calling them geeks or nerds
But they were the ones
Who turned into Bill Gates or Steve Jobs
Or Edison or Einstein who left us
With great discoveries and insights
So my child in any battle
May what the circumstances prevail
The stronger one wins
The weaker loses
And I'm not here singing of physical strength
Remember that people respect mental strength
And as the day comes to close
What matters is sit around and talk wise
If you don't want to hang out with those boys
They can never force you them to oblige
If they are river, then
You become the ocean
