I remember the time when the Gaelic Footballers of Millstreet
In the Cork County Senior Championship for the best were a hard team to beat
But time does bring change as some like to say so
And that is going back a few decades ago.

The career her mum had mapped out for her did not work out to plan
For Catherine went to Kenya and married a Maasai man
She adapted to a different sort of culture and a different way of life
And to the noble Robert she's a devoted wife.

I spoke to him for a brief while just a few weeks ago
And he had with him on a leash his border collie 'Joe'
And today i met them on the street i stopped to say hello
But the man's name I'd forgotten and the dog's name i did know.
...

Like his brothers Jer and Peter he never had a wife
And if he still lives he has known a long life
He worked for the Singletons Jerry and Bill
Jack Murphy from Inchaleigh by Clara hill.

His army callous killers left a trail of blood and shame
Yet street signs on streets and avenues still bear the cruel man's name
And why he should be remembered I will never understand
As he did some cruel and bad things to the people of Ireland.

I climbed the hill between the tall gum trees
Where undergrowth reached right up to the knees
And on the trees the voices of wood birds ringing
Of over one hundred bellbirds at their singing.

The sun like a red ball rise over the mountain
And then brighten and kiss the grass moistened with dew
As I stand here at ease by a crystal clear fountain
And feel happy to welcome a day that is new.

Old John used to remember his eyes dimmed with tears
Of the far away town and the long gone years
A town he had not seen for seen for a six decade time span
Until last year he returned to where his life's journey began

Remember those you judge who in life are not doing materially well
Like you too do have their own stories to tell
Of how they daydream of a better life every day
And hope that the lady of luck will come smiling their way

I remember Millstreet as a welcoming Town
Which was one of it's many just claims to renown
As some of it's people are famous and known far and wide
Beyond the borders of Duhallow's green countryside

Though i had known of better days i did have dreams to follow
It was my yearn for adventure that lured me from Duhallow
To this great southern Country of many different races
Of different Countries of the World and many different places
...

She only can remember her loves of the past
And the good times she knew of that for her did not last
In her late forties she does not have children to enrich her life
And to any man she was never a wife
...

I remember i heard Burns Afton Water in the Square in Millstreet Town
Sung by an old traveling musician with gray in his hair of brown
As he played on his concertina at the September Horse Fair
The beauty in his singing voice and music wafting in the morning air
...

I will always remember where my life's journey began
Where i grew from a boy into a man
Claraghatlea in Duhallow just west of Millstreet Town
Where old Clara Mountain forever looks down
...

I remember with fondness those i may never again meet
That i have not seen since i lived in Millstreet
Some of them at peace now forever does lay
And some as i am from Millstreet ageing far away

I will always remember the friends I have known
Though in distance and years apart from them I've grown
They are happy at home I went to live elsewhere
I will always remember my friends over there.

You may not be one of the famous or in money be worth a million or two
But you will be remembered by someone yes someone will remember you
Someone will say to his or her friends he or she was caring and kind
Such a compassionate person better would be hard to find

Sparrows chirp in the sunshine it is a marvellous day
And the silver gulls are calling in the park by old Port Bay
And there is not one rain cloud in the bright blue sky
A memory to remember for decades to enjoy.

And across the wet and bare and deserted fields the cold north winds are blowing
Winter arrives in his cloak of gray on the first morning of December
And the redwings chirp on the bare hedgerows old memories i remember,

I remember her for her beautiful smile
And her down to earth ways free of conceit and guile
I often saw her in the park or walking on the street
And sad to think her i will never more meet

I told my friend of my big worries and of the recent stresses I've known
But with a shake of his head and a shrug of his shoulders he said i have worries of my own
And remember what happened to Jesus can you name me one better than he
He was beaten and humiliated and crucified on Calvary.

The sun to shine reluctant hid in the cloudy sky
I was on a bus to Ballybunion out by the Kerry sea
