Samuel Marks Poems

I see you in my dreams, I do swear it
Your presence neither had nor requited,
And O my countenance, frowns do wear it
Gained something, somewhere, sometime delighted.

For progress we work,
Through buildings we lurk.
Hoping for a day
For simpler days.
...

A gradual suffocation beneath
A thousand sheets of egyptian cotton,
My thoughts of you haunt me through nights' bequeath
For the sad sorrows of those forgotten.

Sonnet Of Dreams

I see you in my dreams, I do swear it
Your presence neither had nor requited,
And O my countenance, frowns do wear it
Gained something, somewhere, sometime delighted.
Some reveries dance the silken ballet
While others stride fast in beastly tangos;
Their fires dwell in dolorous crochets
And their stories lost in sickly mangoes.
Mad fantasies die when the nights subside
The day wishes I to arise and learn:
Such fictitious thoughts are such –I abide
But from sense and reality I turn.
O you, I cannot ever leave be, for
In dreams you are all that I can adore.
