What can I write about when all words fail me
And my emotion is at its height
When, bereft of words and left with purest feeling
On looking for words, I find them kneeling
...
Shhh...be quiet, don't say a word
And like a statue, be so still
While the world is in another crisis
Countries destroyed, people killed
...
In honour of Sheikh Nimr and all innocent people killed
Another innocent person killed
And yet more blood is on the hands

I don't know if we can make rent my love
This month's going to be pretty tough
The stress has impacted my sleep a bit
Waking up these days feeling rough
...
Leaping into the air, quickly flapping it’s wings
Sudden, swift action is what inspiration brings
Desperate to fly higher and higher
Wishing never to slow, never to tire
...
My sweet, dear little Afsheen, since you departed from me
Everything is quiet now, and so lonely is my knee
On which you would sit and play, free of any cares and stress
I would comb your hair gently, and so lovingly caress
...
My child, my love, dear Afsheen, all is quiet now since you’ve gone
Your lovely smile is no more, and me smiling seems so wrong
I would love to watch you smile, as your mother combed your hair
You seemed so very happy, and so free of any care
...
Distractions are so many
And when they seem to decrease
We constantly search for more
As if trying to shut out
...
On A Drip
On a drip
I
Drip, drip, drip.
You, my loved one, on a drip
A drop is released from the bag
And joins the back of the queue
It will be a while before it reaches your veins
Like light, formed long ago from a star
Each drop was released long before it reaches you
II
We have gathered around you, your loved ones
Draw an imaginary line joining us with you
And it forms a constellation
Let’s call it “the necklace of love”
Beautifying, and being beautified by,
You, on this night of dedication
III
We pray that you stay with us
That your light doesn’t fade
And you emerge from this illness
Like the moon from the clouds
With abundance, like rain
Silence speaks, in this night of stillness.
