They have words and they have promises and they have rituals
And they have learned journals and scholarly reviews

It is like
The whole world is opening up again
...

All the lonely years-
All the dreams-
...

There are answered prayers-
I prayed for so many years
...

How this all happened to happen to me I don’t know
The best things in my life are not the result of my achieving them-
...

I want the past to be again-
I don’t want so many of them to be dead-
...

Who can bear in old age the despair of friends sick and lost?
The endless incapacities and infirmities
...

Life is too complex for a single poem-
In the course of a single day
How many moods and contradictions?
How many problems and worries at once?
How many little joys and perceptions
Of so varied kinds?
