Sharmila Saheed Poems

Oh teacher, Oh teacher!
My test isn't signed
Because somehow
My parents went blind
...

My Gran came from Alabama with a banjo on her knee,
My sister came from Malaysia with a parang in her hand,
My Dad came from America with a burger in his mouth,
My Mom came from Singapore with a new handphone in her house,
...

I love my homework,
Yes I do!
I do my homework,
Yes I do!
...

I got home
and I looked up high.
I saw a dragon,
Up in th sky.
...

When the prison gates
Open for hell
Hear the clang
Of dark scary bells
...

Stop it!
Go away!
You're really, really messing up my day!
You're bratty!
...

My sister smells,
My mum loves bells,
My dad jumped into a well,
My brother crawls like a rat,
...

Hear the rustling of excited leaves,
See the wind moving restlessly.
Listen and oh so quietly,
The hushed grass awake.
...

The leaves open up
They can feel
The light laughter
Of the early breeze
...

Oh Teacher Oh Teacher

Oh teacher, Oh teacher!
My test isn't signed
Because somehow
My parents went blind
Now, don't say it's my fault,
They left their hands in the bank vault.

Oh teacher, Oh teacher
Do you know why
I was born without wings
And so cannot fly
Thus I am late
Didn't have breakfast,
So if you don't mind,
Pass me a plate.

Oh teacher, Oh teacher!
I've failed again
Please don't scold me,
Now you'll see why,
I was thinking about
Having an eagle's brain.
