Destination Heartbreak Poem by Andrew Joseph

With precious but empty words,
You cheated your way into my heart,
A lesson too hard but well learnt,
Slowly but sure tables have turned,
Deep down my heart has rejuvenated and gained voice,
No more do I love you,
You take it for granted, I hate you is meant,
I seek no vengeance for breaking my heart,
An act of hostility towards me,
In our timespan together, one in a thousand you meant,
'I love you', often a whisper to my thirsty ears,
You never aroused my curiosity before,
So did you ever love me at all?
My heart ain't cryptic, it ain't a need to decipher,
Am hungry for love that's all,
With my first teardropp our love lost and died forever,
Now am but a peasant yearning for gold and love,
But my heart seeks more of the other,
Your defence, just a sad twist of fate,
Nothing we can't spin around,
Once more your words a temptation,
A mistake am dying to make to give chance,
A chance of you and me, an occurrence of memories so painful,
But I deter myself,
Complementing once bitten twice shy.
