Rollercoaster Poem by Susan Ash

Rollercoaster

Early blossoms,
Daffodils and crocus,
Newborn lambs.
The signs are here,
It is nearly time,
My heart is impatient

While Mother Earth sleeps
My mind carries
The knowledge of a lifetime,
My heart feels
The sorrows of the world,
Since time began.
Only moon shine and stars
Can lift my spirits
To endure until
My renewal.

As the life cycle
Begins again
So my heart is reborn,
Returning to the
Innocence of childhood.
Past hurts melt away
With the warmth of the sun,
Naive hope returns.
My head knows
Nothing will change
But my heart
Will not listen.

Once again it is open
To those who are not afraid.
It is not unconditional, so
In this world of
Suspicion, self absorption
And inhibitions
There are few takers,
I will be hurt by
Friends and strangers.

Yet without this rebirth
My heart would grow
Too heavy and
I could not survive.
Each year it is recycled
So that I may ride
The rollercoaster
Again.
