Skulls Poem by G J Salgado

Skulls

I kept a locket
Inside with strands of hair
It had your name on it
But how did it get there

I know what you're thinking
The room is sinking
Am I dreaming
Or is this a book I'm reading

The pages painted with your blood
You were drowning in the flood
I reached in and pulled you from the mud
No one knew the secrets between us

When we started I didn't know you very well
I dragged your face through the dirt
You dragged me through hell
It's the truth but it still hurts

Our crammed up closets became overflowed
The secrets weren't so secret anymore
Our skeletons came out between the overflow
It was too late to close the door

Ashes to ashes
Dust to bones
Lightning crashes
This is where we roam

The chapter is closed
We've shut the door
Indiscretion exposed
Our bodies lay on the ocean floor
