Foggy October nights
On the highway; southbound
International airport light
Spinning; blinking like a space station
Distracting me; break lights vital; critical
Every yellow line, stop sign;
Approching ahead;
A little bit, a inch, a second;
Is closer to you, close enough
Mapping miles in my mind
Always aware of how many hours
It would take if I caved in
And drove to you;
walked to you; ran to you
I hate the North; or further from you
It is even colder up there (I know why):
the trees are crowded and drooping;
They are sad as I, when I am there
Breaking 55;
We all drive faster at night;
When the blinking lights
Get dimmer as you drift;
Mind in the elsewhere;
You know where; exactly where
In the southbound or northbound
But still not quite there.
