Tag-Along Poem by Virginia M. Heprian

Tag-Along

(A Cocker Spaniel)

She once belonged to a soldier,
Who was shipped across the sea.
We boarded her on a coastal flight,
To bring her home to me.

I never knew what became of him,
The battle spread far and wide,
But he left for me a legacy,
A tag-along by my side.

Many a year she lifted my spirits,
Her playful moods a delight,
And when she strayed she never swayed
But a moment out of sight.

Now the sands of time have come to pass.
Since she has gone from me.
Her barking cries, her soulful eyes,
Are now a memory.
