Yussuf Muktar Poems

O' Muslims; O' faithfuls; O' people of Mandera County,
Former dwelling with secure and well content
Whose provisions did come in abundance from every place
Through our filthy hands now turns ghost and gloom
...

Flowers and light, therein I am found
Always happy, always flying
Beautifully colored, so is my mind
My wings and flaps carry no bombs
...

Confused at this very crossroad
I held my cheeks high in dismay
After a glimpse of new looks
Of mean skinny milk-less goats
...

I blindly celebrate in a gloomy mood
As my right hand is chopped ruthlessly off
By the very left hand that stood nearer
In spoiling the good they could scoop
...

I belong to the circle of the Wise;
Honored by age, privileged by time.
Necessity of unwarranted unity;
Hanging on a thin line of interest;
...

Ripped apart, divided and ruled-
Our brave emperors turned slaves,
In favour of the deadly arch foe,
That always yearned for our blood.
...

Fleers and Flouts
Frightened by the wave
Pressure from tidings
Eyes popped with claim
...

I share my play in the wilderness,
Forested by bitter herbs and shrubs
I hide and seek in a sweet game,
With brethren, together born and bred!
...

As If We Lack Common Sense!

O' Muslims; O' faithfuls; O' people of Mandera County,
Former dwelling with secure and well content
Whose provisions did come in abundance from every place
Through our filthy hands now turns ghost and gloom
In a blurred identity; why ungratefully kill one another?
Denying the favours of the All-hearing, All-seeing Creator?
The wrath, that which our tongues put forth falsely,
To taste the extreme of famine and fear; is that our goal?
Yet, like animals, we fight as if we lack common sense!

Where in the scriptures is this deadly vice justified?
Did we forget sin-less angels on our shoulders
Whose duty is all records, every day, every step we take
The Day when every person will come up pleading for self
With what sin had we killed? A question answer-less indeed!
Today we live well-less; tensions of tomorrow, God forbid!
Submission to the Almighty, before the torment comes upon us,
The sole solution; open to all living souls before we fall
Yet, like animals, we fight as if we lack common sense!

Wasn't it our culture to spread our blessed greetings;
From heaven through which love could have been obtained?
Yet our filthy hearts are full of scorns and hatred, lest we forget,
Against the very brothers in blood and same in religion
With whom we could strive with wealth and lives
To raise the only flag, recognized in heaven, to the peak
Clean hearts, condition to repentance, for the Almighty is clean
Holding fast, together all to His rope, in Him truly if we believe
Yet, like animals, we fight as if we lack common sense!
