Andrea Cebrecos Poems

Before him
Life was ordinary
With no colors
A world that was empty
...

(A Tribute to Florida's Everglades)

Legendary beauty
That I once read about in a book
...

Please give me your attention
I’m not talking for my health
There has been some tension
And it’s threatening to make things go to hell
...

If you think I’m going to bother you
You are mistaken
Because darling
I’m starting to slowly realize
...

I am one
Looking for the young woman that
I am to become
I thought I had found her
...

And she gazed up at the stars and thought
'Will anyone ever love me again? '
And she felt everything she believed in fall apart
Throwing her pride on the floor
...

Thrown in a corner
Were the words “Once upon a time”
Crumbled and forgotten
Waiting to be thrown out
...

He told her he was temporary
Just practice for all the boys she would meet
She thought he sounded silly
Because she saw him as permanent
...

When you asked me what I wanted
I responded “Whatever makes you happy”
And even though I was being honest
What I meant to say was “to continue trying”
...

Standing here alone
Underneath the pouring rain
Waiting for you, love
...

She once wrote to love
Explaining how much it hurt
But love didn’t care
...

The hallways were filled with people
Yet they appeared cold and empty
To the girl sitting in the corner
Feeling abandoned and alone
...

Left alone to cry
She had nothing to turn to
Except solitude
...

He gave her his wristband
A sign of his attachment to her
She mistook it for possessiveness
And wanted to leave it lying in a corner
...

Locked away in its prison it remained
Never to play another note or scale
Never to be taken out of its cell
But for a gentle touch its body pained
...

Locked and abandoned in its case
The saxophone seized to play
It didn’t leave behind a single musical trace
...

Its golden body
Began to slowly decay
It no longer played
...

She had abandoned her passion
A passion she had once called a gift
Claiming she no longer had time
Trading it for what now seemed more important
...

Whoever put “good” and “bye” together
Was obviously not thinking
So as I stand in front of you in the airport
I’ll just say “Badbye”
...

Andrea Cebrecos Biography

Hello. My name is, as you all have probably already seen, Andrea. I'm currently 19 and studying literature and law in college. I don't know exactly when I started writing; but once I picked it up I just couldn't stop. Writing is one of my many outlets. It's exhilarating to put your feelings down on paper and when you're done, to read what you have created and feel pleased. Even though I go through long periods of writers block, I somehow manage to write something down - usually at three in the morning. No, I am not a Shelley, Frost, Dickinson, or Poe but hopefully my poetry is a bit as enjoyable as theirs. Please, critique away; don't hold back. After all, that's one of the main reasons I decided to join this site. I hope you all enjoy what I have up so far.)

Cliché

Before him
Life was ordinary
With no colors
A world that was empty

After him
Life became a movie
And the “love at first sight” cliché
Her reality
