No Musical Trace (Villanelle) Poem by Andrea Cebrecos

No Musical Trace (Villanelle)

Rating: 5.0

Locked and abandoned in its case
The saxophone seized to play
It didn’t leave behind a single musical trace

It once held in her heart a special place
But she left it because she didn’t have the time of day
Locked and abandoned in its case

Memories of solos and concerts began to erase
Because she preferred to do something that would pay
It didn’t leave behind a single musical trace

She knew that one day she would have to face
The saxophone's reality she could not bring herself to say
Locked and abandoned in its case

She never gave it a single gaze
And it began to very slowly decay
It didn’t leave behind a single musical trace

One day she removed its hated lace
But felt no connection so she put it away
Locked and abandoned in its case
It didn’t leave behind a single musical trace
