It may be just distance,
or a lack of persistence,
It may be the way things were seen,
that carried my girl and so much of my world,

This day is not a happy one,
like others we have known,
this day has not been good to us,
we are separate and alone.

Nobody paddles the boat all alone,
because, everyone else is on board,
but, everyone has their own mountain to climb,
and each has a river to ford.

These old eye-balls only know what they have seen,
dreams at night, and in the the daytime,
daydreams, so many times,
expectations unfulfilled.

I tried to watch the news today,
but, I just couldn't see,
... Now, maybe it was me...

As the autumn eases in,
I come to rest more,
soon followed by the thoughts,
of sweet Rebecka,
...

Within the shadow of an Elm,
there lies the couple,
beneath its branches ,
flashes light of love and tears,
...

He even did it in the light of day,
a Nine- year - old or so,
used as but a pawn, I think,
a young black boy from the neighborhood.

and when days are sunny,

Cold and frosted panes of glass,
Christmas trees of winters past,
