Elm -Errrrrr Poem by Barry Van Allen

Within the shadow of an Elm,
there lies the couple,
beneath its branches ,
flashes light of love and tears,
although it seems as if they've reached the end of something,
It isn't - - - then it is - - - how it appears.

It seems the time to shed the skin of being single,
but, not the time to leave the place that is secure,
I t seems the time to take that step,
but, not the right time for commitment,
and while they truly love each other,
it's of themselves, they are not sure.

Both are young, but are well versed on how things happen,
and both are giving everything to make it right,
yet , as they sit beneath that Elm,
they have that feeling, ... overwhelmed...
and wish they never had that stupid, awful fight,
the other night, because her wedding dress seemed tight!

He tried to tell her that it didn't really matter,
' It's just a dress! ' , he said,
- - - then she cried all night long,
he tried to tell her that it didn't really matter,
'cause he'd make sure she didn't have it on that long!

... you stupid kid!
