Far too many young and brave people for their National flag have died
And far too many have fought in war just because of National pride
But like 'tis said about youth that youth must have it's fling
Though the dead never do hear when the living their praises sing

Tonight is Poets Night at the Cultural Hall where poets their verses read and recite
It is a nice place for to spend a few hours if for soul nourishment you have the appetite
The town's best to perform their work have been invited it should be a happy night of verse and song
As well we'll have the town's best singer songrwriters and with them feel free for to sing along,

He hailed from the Macroom Countryside
For many decades he bought and sold cattle
And in Cork Marts he was known far and wide.

Are we that different to all other life forms we too are only born for to die
The only immortal is the Goddess of Nature all others are mortals just like you and I
We really should not take ourselves too seriously for life it does seem too short after all
And it will not matter to us when our life's journey is completed if the living our names never do recall

For one reason or for the other their Homelands they have chosen to leave
From different Nations and cultures and on different Gods they believe
They bring with them their foods and their cultures they bring with them their music and song
And yet to the one human family all people as one do belong

In Iraq they did seek their glory But Iraq for them their pit of shame
These so called leaders of the so called Coalition of the Willing the egotistical who never take any blame
For causing such heartbreak and suffering and inflicting on so many pain
From past wars leaders have not learned mistakes are repeated again.

That I'm just an average amateur writer that I could not deny
But my rhymes are like wild rabbits they seem to multiply
I must be quite addictive to keep on penning stuff
But not many writers make the grade few seen to be as good enough

The beautiful Goddess Mother Nature her presence around me everywhere
The only God of which one can be certain and with her there is none to compare
Though last night she seemed rather angry I heard her howling in the trees
This morning again she seemed pleasant she whispered in a gentle breeze,

To you who claim that you alone own wisdom I must inform you that you have got it wrong
For wisdom is a thing that cannot be owned though to anybody wisdom can belong
The super rich they cannot purchase wisdom for wisdom it cannot be bought or sold
You can even find it in some wise young people for to be wise you don't have to be old,

I do know people who at times can be violent but they are cowards at heart one might say
When stood up to they cannot take the pressure and they are quick for to back away
They are the type born to be bullies and power over others they do crave
But at heart all bullies are cowardly and a bully could never be brave,
