To You Poem by Francis Duggan

To You

Rating: 3.5

To you who claim that you alone own wisdom I must inform you that you have got it wrong
For wisdom is a thing that cannot be owned though to anybody wisdom can belong
The super rich they cannot purchase wisdom for wisdom it cannot be bought or sold
You can even find it in some wise young people for to be wise you don't have to be old,
I know aged people who sadly lack in wisdom there's no fool like an old fool as some say
And wise people are rarer far than diamonds you do not meet a wise one every day
The wise people they do not flaunt their wisdom yet when they speak you know that they are wise
About them they have an assuring calmness they learn with their ears and with their eyes,
To you who think that you alone own wisdom with your self importance you get carried away
Wise people never do feel proud and special or expect of you respect to them to pay
They never yearn for power or to be leaders or their own praises you never hear them sing
They do not make speeches or wish to be heard they are the people who do their own thing,
To you who think that you alone own wisdom your own self you are one who do deceive
If you are wise you would not think in this way so you are not as wise as you believe.
