James Royster Poems

Oh Motherland why do you bleed?
It must be painful to watch a war between
your own seed.
...

How can I smile when 2/3 of me have been
oppressed? Yet I am told to just hold my head
up and do my best.
...

I've seen a flower whose petals refuse to fall.
I've seen a woman who looks like a beautiful queen doll.

I've seen the majestic eagle soar across the sky.
...

You complete me, you make me whole,
If I were a puzzle you would be a piece of my soul.

When you’re sad I cry.
...

I tried to write about you, but the words
weren't special enough.

I tried to sing about you, but the notes
...

For me finding love is really tough, but
when I first laid eyes on you I knew you
were a diamond in the rough
...

Empty, lonely, cold, and dark,
This is what it's like on the inside of my heart.

There have been times when a light once shone,
...

Hate me for who I am, not for what I do.
Because not matter what you say I will remain True.

True to my cause, True to myself, True to my state of mind.
...

Do I adore you, or are you just a friend?
I know that I care for you, but do I want u secretly deep within?

Sometimes I wonder if this is all our relationship is meant to be.
...

Drip Drop, the sound of the rain.
It's melody eases me to sleep, I know no
pain.
...

Now is the time for change!
You think you have respect because you push a range?

Like little children we have all been pacified.
...

12.

You were the perfect piece, but together we don't fit.
If life were a game of tag you would be 'It'.

You were my morning light, summer sun.
...

I Hate You
To me you are a disgrace.
I despise everything about you, even that cynical look on your face.
...

I have no reason to smile, no reason to cry.
No reason to live, no reason to die.

I have no reason to laugh, no reason to pout
...

15.

Why do I sit here feeling so depressed?

Is it because I’ve failed even when I’ve given my best?
...

Me without you is like a heart with no beat.
I am like the sun with no heat.

I am like blood with no vein.
...

You came here in search of a dream.
I came here with no hope, or so it would seem.

You came here looking for money.
...

I have fought my battles and overcame them all,
But the current task is not something small.

It encompasses all of me.
...

What’s the point of life if there is no love?
What the point of religion if you don’t believe in a man above?

What’s the point of a house if you don’t have a home?
...

There's more to me than meets the eye.
What you think you see is probably a lie.

Inside this frame there lies three hearts.

James Royster Biography

I feel that poetry/spoken word is one of the most beautiful forms of communication. I am a man with too many thoughts and not enough time to express them all.)

Africa

Oh Motherland why do you bleed?
It must be painful to watch a war between
your own seed.

The rich blood now flows out of your vein.
Two sides who fight, with nothing to gain.

Both sides refuse to hide.
Do they not realize that they are
participating in a self-inflicted genocide?

They cause you to suffer, but they have a
blinded sight.
By killing their brother they think they are right.

The rattle of a gun has oppressed your sweet song.
This sad, new song will not cease until one
side has won.

Your beautiful skin has been destroyed by
bombs and tanks.
You have done so much, but no one wants to
stop and give thanks.
