so small and tiny
Leaves no impression

Shadows play across my mind
in a befuddling dance without time.

My heart beats faster, my brain goes numb

Thoughts shower down like acid rain
burning my heart and eating my brain.

Unbidden, unwanted, they invade my mind

I am from baby dolls and Barbies,
mixed with Marlboro and Popov.
I am from the mud puddles in the backyard,
cool, comforting, and fun to throw.

A numbing fog creeps through my head,
and my eyes glaze over like the living dead.

Trapped inside by the monster I locked away,

Fear and terror pulse through my veins,
my heart pounding the warning that
there is no escape.

Lingering on the outskirts
of memories long forgotten,
a shadow emerges from the dark,
carrying warmth and mystery behind him.
