Katarina Rheeder Poems

We are sweetest sisters, our backs turned to the world
Can you see the woman - emerging from the girl
Can you see the bruises, hear the cries unheard?
All those years of hiding, noone said a word
...

The clamour of my heart beating against its bars of reason is deafening
My chest is tight and confining
My mouth is dry and unreliable
My hands are shaky but warm
...

They try to force you into a box
Into a hole
Into a frame
Into a cage
...

The moon is a sliver
My heart is a stone
I've found the giver
But I'm still alone
...

I know your story
I saw you as an old man
You had your back turned to me
Curly, sparse, black hairs on your neck
...

I lived, I died, a thousand times!
A thousand tears, a thousand smiles.
What do you want to know from me,
that I've not already given away?
...

I die in your silence
I bloom in your shadow
I am your heart
I am your pain
...

Katarina Rheeder Biography

I lived, I died, a thousand times! A thousand tears, a thousand smiles. What do you want to know from me, that I've not already given away? Just ask and I will sell myself, put my heart up on that shelf. Take my face off, turn around, see my soul upon the ground. Stomped and trampled, no remorse, I've too much fear to mount that horse. But when I find the light within, I will help you quell your sin.)

Soul Sisters

We are sweetest sisters, our backs turned to the world
Can you see the woman - emerging from the girl
Can you see the bruises, hear the cries unheard?
All those years of hiding, noone said a word
But then I found my sisters, and the tears poured forth
I found so many shoulders, to lay down all my thoughts
I found so many ears - to hear my silly sorrows
I found a friend who would still love me tomorrow
Love despite the anguish, love despite the truth
When I try to run away, they can see right through!
When I try to end it, they get me to hang on
They hold my hand and dry my tears and guide me to be strong
They lay me down in waters, so still and warm and deep
They stroke my little, troubled mind until it falls asleep
They brush away the cobwebs, so my doubting eyes may see
That I could never be alone, it is not just me!
It's not just the laughter, the games of make-pretend
It's the one who helped you see that love will never end
