Caged Heart Poem by Katarina Rheeder

Caged Heart

The clamour of my heart beating against its bars of reason is deafening
My chest is tight and confining
My mouth is dry and unreliable
My hands are shaky but warm
They seek you
Not to touch you
But just to know you are there
My soul longs to sing
But must settle for hushed mumbles
My skin glows
Awaiting the hand that will never brush it
My heart sinks
Knowing it will never rise like it is meant to
Knowing that I have cheated myself
Knowing the truth that I can reveal to none
Especially not to the one
To that cruel man
Who taunts me in my dreams
How I would slap his defiant face
How I would hold him
So I could breathe again
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
I can't breathe

Hey, Caged Heart! Take it easy, enjoy my poem, and... Fly with Me Fly with me. Why do you just kiss in the dark street? Oh, fly with me. There is more to know though the lips are sweet. Fly with me. Say good-bye to the bees lost in flowers and trees. Oh, fly with me Over the mountains, across the seas. Fly with me Into wherever our minds can see. Oh, fly with me Beyond what our present being seems to be. - from GOD BLESS NOT ONLY AMERICA
