Katie Champeau Poems

It was a warm June day,
The day I saw your sad face.
You were scared, beaten and bruised,
I was the same way,
...

I have cried myself to sleep,
I've whispered your sweet name.
Nothing I do, will bring you back.
My pain is all in vain.
...

My pretty girl you are
and that's how it will stay
you have always been here for me,
and now I will do the same.
...

I am only a shell,
of what I used to be.
I used to be Katie,
that laughed and loved.
...

I had a dream last night,
and you were there.
The look in your eyes,
the warm of the air.
...

Here I am, once again.
I can barely hear the beating of my heart.
I keep your memories near,
even though I'm falling apart.
...

The world lingers by,
one day at a time.
My ancestral roots,
Like a story of many.

Untitled (The Loss Of A Pet)

It was a warm June day,
The day I saw your sad face.
You were scared, beaten and bruised,
I was the same way,
not long before I met you.
When I saw the horror of you life,
I could not leave you there broken.
The woman who owned you, I gave no choice.
You were going home with me.

There were cigarette burns on you,
you were afraid of men, squeek toys and cars.
But, that was the day you came home with me.
That ride in the car home, you were afraid.
I comforted you the entire way.

You were 8 months old,
and able to start over.
I could feel your warmth,
and your love for me,
a million times over.

We spent years together,
everyday I was with you,
bonded us even stronger.
Nothing could break the
love between you and me.

It's now been 5 years,
since we were torn apart.
That fateful day,
you lost you life.
The day, I broke my heart.

I came home to see you,
I knew I had to.
I found you there,
right on the floor.
That's when I was told,
you had been hit by a car.
I knew what I had to do,
but it was very hard.

I laid with you there,
held onto you and cried,
but you still tried
to comfort me.
Until that moment,
you died.

The memories of you and I,
were flooding my mind.
Like that one day,
in the bitter cold,
you chased me 11 miles
to be with me in school.

Or how every morning,
you would jump in my car,
begging to come to come with,
just for a ride.

But, the way you looked at me,
while laying on that floor,
I could hear you asking,
begging, wanting to be set free,
forever more.

I could hear you clearly,
without a sound was made,
I could hear you pleading,
'Momma please, help me, it's time.'

I carried you out to the car,
for your last ride.
Now it was you,
comforting me on this somber ride.

The vet came out,
she knew what to do.
She let me keep you
in your favorite seat.
I sat next to you,
hearing you breathe.
Your head was on my lap,
you looked up to me,
and I could hear you say goodbye.

You died right there,
right in my arms,
in the back seat
of that old car.
I took you home,
one last time.

I buried your body,
under that cherry tree,
the place where we cuddled,
and where you played with me.

I still miss you and I cry,
but I know that your with me,
everyday and night.
When I am dreaming,
I can see you,
hold you and feel you.
Almost like, I never lost you.

I know your gone,
and I can't bring you back.
I want you to know,
how much you made me laugh.
I see you in my dreams,
and meet you there often.

Maybe one day,
when I am done with this life,
I can come see you, and feel you.
The things we did,
during our earthly life.
For now, I'll keep missing you,
every single day,
until I come home,
to meet you at the pearly gates.
